In a recently released clip of Netflix’s upcoming , Selena Gomez reveals the type of character she’ll be playing — the kind with no filter.
The film, directed by Emmy Award-winning Rob Burnett (Late Show with David Letterman), is based on Jonathan Evison’s 2012 novel. The movie premiered last January at the Sundance Film Festival and features performer Selena Gomez, along with co-stars (Submarine) and .
The plot revolves around Mr. Benjamin, a writer (Paul Rudd) who suffers a tragic personal loss and enrolls in a life-changing course on care-giving. This leads him to take care of a disabled Trevor (Craig Roberts), an 18-year old with a “unique sense of humor” who suffers from muscular dystrophy. The pair bond while embarking on an impromptu road-trip.
Selena Gomez, who we’ve seen in Monte Carlo (2011), Spring Breakers (2012) and (2016), plays an outspoken character named Dot. This role presents a young runaway hitchhiker who squats the boys’ road-trip. During her first interaction with Trevor, Dot interrogates him on his condition, focusing on the discomforting personal questions.
Between the three protagonists, the combined sense of perverted humor should make for many comical highlights in this otherwise serious drama. The film brings to light the importance of hope, perseverance, friendship, and particularly Katy Perry.
Don’t miss out on the fireworks, catch The Fundamentals Of Caring starting June 24 on Netflix.
