Sharon Stone’s Mystery Marvel Character Has A Secret Power

We already knew would play a role in an upcoming Marvel movie, and while the role has been shrouded in mystery, we now have some more info on her character.

A recent feature on Sharon Stone, Alfre Woodard and Jane Fonda for AARP revealed that Stone isn’t playing just some Marvel Cinematic Universe bystander. Instead, she’s playing a superhero!

Still as icy as Catherine Tramell.

As the AARP piece reads:

Stone has been cast as a superhero — she’ll only reveal that her secret power is heat — in a yet-to-be-named movie, also for Marvel.

That doesn’t tell us much, or really narrow down the field of characters Stone could be playing. “Heat” is a pretty generic superpower, and could describe a wide range of more specific abilities. That said, it is revealing that Stone would call her character a superhero outright, meaning we’ll have another female hero introduced into the male-dominated MCU.

We don’t know what Marvel movie Stone will appear in, though she’ll play Janet van Dyne — the original Wasp — in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The actress coquettishly revealed her Marvel deal on The Late Late Show with James Corden, saying:

“I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”

Fans took those repeated uses of the word “wee” as a reference to the Wasp’s ability to shrink. As we learned in Ant-Man, Janet van Dyne is the mother of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who inherited the mantle of the Wasp in the film’s post-credits scene. While flashbacks provided a brief look at Janet’s early superhero career, the character’s face was never shown, giving filmmakers the chance to cast a known star in the role at a later date. Stone is the right age to play Lilly’s mother, and now that we know she’s playing a superhero, it would make sense for her to play the elder van Dyne. Moreover, in the comics the Wasp has frequently had a stinging blast ability that could be loosely described as a “heat” power.

While speculation points to Ant-Man and the Wasp, Stone could still appear in another film. Marvel’s slate is currently scheduled through 2020, with plenty of opportunities for Stone to to appear in the MCU. It’s possible the actress has a secret role in November’s Doctor Strange, the currently filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, or the soon-to-shoot Thor: Ragnarok, though considering the high-profile casting announcements for those features, it’s more likely she’ll appear in a film later in the schedule.

What Marvel superhero do you think Sharon Stone will play? Let us know in the comments.
