A few months ago, we were treated to whispers that Marvel had an ambitious plan for Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird and Nick Blood’s Agent Hunter. The idea was an intriguing spin-off under the title Marvel’s Most Wanted – here was the solicit:
“Centers on Bobbi Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Lance Hunter of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., two ex-spies and ex-spouses who are on the run with no friends, no S.H.I.E.L.D. and a long list of enemies looking to claim a bounty on their heads. Able to trust no one but each other, Bobbi and Hunter form an uneasy alliance with Dominic Fortune, a rogue adventurer with a wealth of resources and even more adversaries, who agrees to protect them so long as they help him with his own agenda. These two heroes will help anyone in need, all while trying to uncover the conspiracy that put their own lives in jeopardy.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 wrote the characters out in the episode “Parting Shot”, an emotionally-charged goodbye to Agents Morse and Hunter. It clearly left itself open for Marvel’s Most Wanted, and fans watched with bated breath.

Since then, rumours have abounded – at one point, Marvel’s Most Wanted looked to be a certainty. Only last week, though, there were rumblings that ABC wasn’t so committed to the idea. Last night, as part of a raft of bad news for Marvel fans – including the cancellation of Agent Carter – Variety reported that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off was dead.
Technically, this isn’t a cancellation; Marvel’s Most Wanted was never commissioned in the first place. But it does sadly leave two major – and popular – characters written out of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. universe. It remains to be seen whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, which has been commissioned, will find a way to bring the characters back. Are you disappointed with this decision? Let me know in the comments!
