Marvel fans will have to wait longer than normal to watch the post-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming if is anything to go by. However, Marvel’s latest addition to Spidey’s new solo venture could make it all worth the wait— if she ends up playing who we think she might.
Fresh off a breakout performance in The Nice Guys opposite Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice has been officially cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but details are typically scarce on who she’ll be playing.
Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but the fifteen year old’s blonde hair and youthful appearance undoubtedly remind us of one Spider-Man love interest in particular— Gwen Stacy!
We last saw Gwen Stacy alongside Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, where her character met an untimely fate in a faithful adaptation of the comics. Before that, Gwen also popped up briefly in the original Sam Raimi trilogy, played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
Both Howard and Emma Stone played older versions of the character, but as Spider-Man: Homecoming will be set primarily at high school, Rice is the perfect age to play Tom Holland’s classmate and potential love interest in the MCU.
The Australian actress proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys. Earlier work in Jasper Jones andNowhere Boys: The Book of Shadows confirmed that Rice has the potential to take on a pivotal role in Marvel’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.
Now, we may be pushing our speculation into the realms of comic book absurdity, but the addition of Gwen Stacy to the MCU could later down the line, an alternate version of the character who was bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker.
Sony boss , developing a number of , so there’s always a chance that Rice could adopt the mantle of Spider-Gwen in a solo venture at some point in the future.
