In honor of Anton Yelchin’s recent unexpected passing, Star Trek Beyond co-stars cancel their scheduled appearance at Cannes Lion. The cast-members who stood in solidarity include Zachary Quinto (Spock), Chris Pine (Kirk), Simon Pegg (Scotty) and John Cho (Sulu).
Paramount Pictures, the host of the event, released the cast’s following statement:
“All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Anton Yelchin. Out of respect, we are withdrawing our participation in the previously announced ‘Star Trek Beyond’ event at Cannes Lions this week.”
At the young age of 27, Anton Yelchin, who you have learned to love as Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek franchise, in a car crash. Last Sunday night, his SUV fatally pinned him against a fence in his Los Angeles home.
Many heartfelt messages were sent by Yelchin’s fellow Star Trek cast, along with many other and fans, who will remember him as a remarkable human being and for his many . Many of his tributes have been posted via Social Media, such as John Cho (Sulu) who posted the following via Twitter:
“I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist — curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I’m in ruins.“
This will certainly make Star Trek Beyond, which is set to open July 22, a much more emotional film than was ever anticipated. Anton Yelchin, you are already very missed and the world will continue to mourn your death and pay respect. R.I.P.
