‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Confirmed To Pick Up Where ‘The Force Awakens’ Left Off

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an astounding success. The film introduced beloved characters like Rey, Finn and Poe and successfully reintroduced franchise legends Han Solo, Princes Leia and Luke Skywalker. It also became one of the highest-grossing films in history, taking in $2.2 billion worldwide.

While the story was critically praised by audiences and critics alike, everyone was puzzled by the film’s ending, where Rey finds Luke Skywalker and hands him his lost lightsaber. Why was this puzzling? Because it left fans wondering whether Episode VIII would break tradition and start off right where its predecessor left off or jump ahead into the future. Well, we now have an answer to that.

Star Wars Celebration is happening right now (check out other great Star Wars Celebration news about and ) and Episode VIII director Rian Johnson spoke at the event about his upcoming foray into the far away galaxy and confirmed that Episode VIII will pick up immediately where The Force Awakens left off:

“This is going to start right where the last one left off. It was a break from tradition.”

He added about the sequel:

“The second film is where we zoom into the characters, getting to the heart of them and challenging them.”

Talking about how Episode VIII‘s story came to be, Johnson said this:

“We would watch dailies come in from ‘VII.’ It was probably really healthy creating the story based on our reactions to the footage rather than the cultural reactions. It was a unique experience.”

Well, it seems the film’s burning question has finally been answered. I personally love to know that Episode VIII will pick right after The Force Awakens‘ ending. It will give the story a better flow and let us explore Luke’s and Rey’s relationship rather than meeting them six months after and have to be filled in through exposition. Unfortunately, we have to wait until December 15, 2017 to see how that pans out. But what do you think?

I love super heroes, in fact, I pride myself of being a comic book fan since long, long before the super hero movie craze got going.
