‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’: Daisy Ridley Is Keeping Rey’s New Hairstyle Under Wraps – Does It Reveal A Major Plot Point?

Production on Star Wars: Episode VIII is coming to an end, and details on shooting have been very hush-hush. The only news we have received about the film’s production has been confirmation that Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Adam Driver (Ben Solo/Kylo Ren) will share a scene together, as they were photographed together in Ireland. This goes to show that Disney has gone to great lengths to ensure that there will be no leaks or reveals to spoil the film. In fact, they have gone to such great lengths that Daisy Ridley has had to cover her hair!

Ridley recorded a workout session for her Instagram, but had to hide her hair with a pillowcase as she can not reveal Rey’s new hairstyle. You can check out the video below.

The actress revealed that director Rian Johnson will reveal more information further down the line, but wants to keep the important plot points close to his chest. Why would Daisy have to cover her hair if it was not important to the story? Could her hairstyle reveal an important part of Episode VIII? With that being said, what hairstyle is beneath that pillow? Here are the three most likely options.

1. Two Buns Like Princess Leia – Proving Rey Is A Skywalker?

Leia is a fan favorite to be the mother of Rey, and if Daisy is sporting two buns under that pillow then this would add more evidence to that theory. The two bun hairstyle could only mean one thing: Rey is a Skywalker. This would be a great way for Rian Johnson to get Rey to honor the Skywalker heritage. George Lucas did something similar in the prequel trilogy when was seen sporting the iconic two bun hairstyle that her daughter, Leia, would also wear later in life.

An alternative is that Rey could be sporting Leia’s almost equally as well-known, braided Empire Strikes Back hairstyle seen above.

2. Completely Shaved – Will Rey Turn To The Dark Side?

What if Daisy is hiding a completely shaven head instead of a new hairstyle? This would spoil a large part of the story as it could reveal a major plot twist regarding Rey. In Star Wars mythology, many Sith are known to shave their heads. Take Asajj Ventress for example; she had brown hair but later shaved it all off when she was taken under the wing of Count Dooku. Could Rey turn to the dark side at the end of Episode VIII? There are rumors that so it would make sense for her to turn on the Jedi order and join the Sith, only to redeem herself in Episode IX.

3. Padawan Braid – Rey Will Train As A Jedi Under Luke Skywalker

The most likely of hairstyles for Rey, the Padawan braid was worn by all apprentice Jedi. Padawan’s Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano wore the braid while they were in training. It would make sense for Daisy to hide the hairstyle if it is in fact a Padawan braid, but she would only be hiding information that we already know. Many people have guessed that Rey will be trained in the ways of the Force by Luke Skywalker, who will take her under his wing at the ancient Jedi temple, which is where we left off with The Force Awakens.

Even if it turns out to be none of these, the hairstyle will hold major implications for those who understand the Star Wars universe and canon. Rian Johnson keeping it so close to the vest shows that her hair will indeed point to a major plot point giveaway, whatever it may be.
