WARNING: Vague spoiler-y details about Stranger Things below!
If you’ve binged all of by now, you’ll know that while the end of Season 1 ties together a fair bit of the storyline, . Naturally this means that the series is ripe for a follow up season, but while the world is focussing on Season 2, apparently the directors of the show are planning something even bigger – think Seasons 2, 3and4..
In an interview with Slash Film, director Shawn Levy revealed that the Duffer brothers (who created the series and also directed 6 episodes) definitely imagined more than one season of the series, saying:
We definitely are hopeful to go several more seasons. And the plan is to continue with this set of characters while introducing a few critical key new ones next season. So I’ll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of Season 1, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way.
Several more seasons? Sounds good to me! Especially if future seasons will include the cast from
As mentioned earlier, given the numbers of loose threads at the end of Season 1, the major arc of a second season looks vaguely set up, but the idea of later seasons hints there could be more involved with the government facility than we knew. For example, how many other children are involved in their experiments? Given the fact that Eleven is is tattooed with 011, surely there must be 10 other test subject children, or at least there were others in the past.
But before we can even dream of a Season 3 or beyond, Season 2 needs to be made and then released, something which probably won’t happen for at least a whole year. So with such a gap, , but what are the cast of Stranger Things going to be up to between seasons? Take a look at their upcoming projects:
Note: If I haven’t included a star it’s because they had no upcoming projects I could find.
David Harbour (Hopper)
After playing the part of grieving dad, and police Chief, David Harbour has a number of projects coming up. On as a unnamed character, then next February he’s set to star alongside Michelle Monaghan in the action film Sleepless. Finally he’s also starring as Ronnie in the film Indifferent Women.
Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler)
After nailing his role as Dungeon Master and leader of the gang, Mike, rising child star Finn Wolfhard has another big role coming up when he plays
Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair)
Caleb McLaughlin has not only smoked the role of Lucas in Stranger Things, but also had quite the resume for a pre-teen! Having starred in both TV and Broadway, Caleb will next show up in an episode of the three-night miniseries New Edition: The Movie, scheduled to be shown on BET.
Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers)
After playing the outcast, photographer elder brother of Will, has a few projects lined up for his post-Stranger Things life. In November he stars alongside Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) and in the drama/thriller Shut In, as well as the thriller Marrowbone from Sergio G. Sanchez, which debuted at Cannes this year.
Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler)
After her role as the concerned mother and friend, Karen Wheeler in Stranger Things, actress Cara Buono will soon appear in the the upcoming rom-com, Half the Perfect World.
Matthew Modine (Dr. Martin Brenner/Papa)
Matthew Modine totally nailed the role as “papa” (a.k.a Dr. Martin Brenner) in Stranger Things, which should really come as no surprise considering his work on films such as Full Metal Jacket and The Dark Knight Rises in the past. Luckily for fans of his work, he has three upcoming projects that we can catch him in. First up is the shark-themed thriller titled In The Deep, due for release on August 2 and also starring Mandy Moore. He’s also appearing in comedy movie The Hippopotamus, a film adaptation of the book of the same name by Stephen Fry. And, lastly he’ll star in the film The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards, which also stars James Franco and Kate Mara.
Joe Keery (Steve Harrington)
Even though he played a total douche-bag for the majority of Season 1 (all right, he redeemed himself by the end), there’s no doubt that Joe Keery is a name to remember. Following on from his role as Steve, you can watch Keery in the thriller The Charnel House, due to be released on October 7.
Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers)
Undoubtedly the biggest name on the series, Ryder apparently has one upcoming project – the much anticipated Beetlejuice 2. However even though the title has supposedly been “announced” on her IMDB page, the actress herself admitted that she didn’t “really know what’s going on with that.” Director Tim Burton his desire to make the sequel, but wanted the perfect script before doing so. I guess for now we might just be better off waiting for Ryder in Stranger Things Season 2.
