‘Suicide Squad’: Margot Robbie-d Her Harley Quinn Stunt Double By Stealing Most Of The Work

She stole the show back when she and now Harley Quinn is at it again, drawing focus as in DC’s upcoming adaptation of Suicide Squad.

As Margot Robbie’s star continues to rise, the actress has begun to attract just as much attention for her onset antics as her performances onscreen; Robbie herself admits that and his commitment to the role of the Joker on set, but clearly, the up and coming star didn’t feel the same about performing her own stunt work.

Superhero projects often require to pull off the most elaborate fight scenes, which is usually where and take over, but Margot Robbie can now count herself among a limited number of performers who .

During a visit to the set of Suicide Squad last summer, producer Richard Suckle explained that Margot Robbie does even more work behind the scenes than she’s given credit for, revealing that;

“She does a tremendous amount of her own stunts… People say, ‘This person did this stunt,’ but Guy Norris…our action unit director and stunt coordinator… said she is by far the most compassionate, gifted actor he’s ever worked with and her ability to do things… She did something last night, which I won’t say, but it was shocking.”

Considering that while working on set, Robbie’s performance must have pretty shocking indeed. Suckle continued to describe Robbie’s stunt work in more detail, explaining that;

“All I’ll say is I went on set and I was watching the monitor and the camera was moving but she was doing something that I could’ve sworn, for sure, she had to be in a harness and, I kid you not, she was not in a harness. I was just blown away. She started training back in September [2014]!”

In the scene that Suckle’s discussing, Harley takes on the Eyes of the Adversary in the cramped confines of an elevator, to run up the wall and land behind the soldier in typically badass Harley Quinn fashion. The fact that Margot did most of this stunt work herself bodes extremely well for the final cut of this scene when the movie’s released on August 5.

Robbie’s determination to perform the majority of her own stunts may be putting other people out of work though, if producer Andy Horowitz’s anecdotes are anything to go by;

“Her double is always on set, most of the time [she] stands there and watches. She keeps thinking she’s going to have to go in,” but then Robbie just keeps pulling the stunts off herself.”

Robbie should probably think about taking it a little bit easier, as she later revealed in an interview that the scene took ten hours to shoot, leaving a physical strain on her body.

“I can barely move my neck at the moment, so yeah, it’s pretty physically demanding! That was… yeah. At the time you never feel the pain and then the next day you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God. That’s why we have professionals. Yeah, I can’t move.'”

Between promotion for The Legend of Tarzan and preparation for , it looks like Robbie won’t be taking a break to recuperate any time soon, which is great news for those of us who are cackling maniacally at the prospect of finally seeing Margot take centre stage .

Let’s just hope that the writers find a way to incorporate Harley Quinn’s partner Poison Ivy into the film as in both the comics and the animated series. Hell, even I would rock up to the set and perform some of the stunts myself if that ever happened. Check out what I mean in a clip from the show here, where the two villains meet for the first time.

Margot Robbie may be impressing us by performing most of her own stunts, but which character in Suicide Squad is the strongest member of the team?
