In a daring continuation of about rolling into a con with a camera I barely know how to use, I decided to drop by Anime Expo over at the Los Angeles Convention Center to check out some cosplay and meet new and exciting people. First and foremost, the entire place as packed to the rafters. Admittedly, it’s been a few years since I’ve been to AX and the scale of it now is like nothing from what I remember. That’s a good thing in that there are lot of cool people to meet. The only downside is that poor ventilation of exhibit halls has become the bane of everyone’s existence. We’re not here to talk about the logistics of the con, though. I’m here to show you some of the cool cosplays I had a chance to check out. So take a look!
Connor Kenway (Assassins’ Creed) and Captain America (Marvel)
There was a lot of America happening with these two. The only way the moment could have been more star spangled was if Guile was there, but that might be too much America for anyone to handle.
Bill (Left 4 Dead)
So, funny story, he was laying there like that when I found him. He was absolutely still and a bunch of people took photos then walked off. I did the same. I figured it was a bit he was doing. I did do a double take to check to see if he moved. I saw him checking his cellphone a few seconds later so that was a relief. Props for the commitment, though.
Vash the Stampede (Trigun)
Everything about this dude’s cosplay was on point down to the shades. Also, he was a genuinely nice guy. We talked for a minute or two about what went into making his costume and the choices in material he made. Now, I know that in the anime Vash wears full on red leather, but he opted for more canvas-like material for the duster because it breathes better. Considering the temperature outside and over at the Artist’s Alley, I’d say it was a pretty solid choice.
Nuka Girl (Fallout 4)
I found her selling ice cold Nuka Cola to the weary cosplayers outside which was pretty cool of her. Unfortunately, she only took cash so I was out of a drink. I did learn, however, that she currently has an up and running along with a couple of partners to create a fan comic based on the origins of Nuka Girl. I wold highly recommend checking it out and showing some support.
I don’t really know what to say about this one. It’s just flat out cool and I was more than impressed the second I saw her. I just had to get a picture. I did learn that humanized Pokemon are my jam. It’s always fun to learn something new about yourself, right?
Those were only a very select few of the great cosplay that was on display at AX on Saturday. No doubt there will be more as the con rolls on all the way into Monday, July 4th. It’s always fun to see conventions flourish and seeing all the creative people that gather to share their hard work and genuinely geek out about the stuff they love. That’s what cons are all about, right? That and making sure you stay hydrated. I cannot stress the importance of having water on hand at all times. It gets hot out there. Trust.
