*WARNING: Spoilers for Season 6, Episode 4 of Game of Thrones*
Last night’s episode of Game of Thrones had a lot to offer its fans. We saw the Stark-Snow family reunion we’ve been longing for, we mourned Osha’s brutal murder at the hands of Ramsay Bolton, and for the first time since Season 1, we saw Daenerys fully reap the benefits of her Targaryen blood.
Unsurprisingly, sweet Daenerys didn’t take kindly to being captured by Khal Moro and forced into the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen in Vaes Dothrak and after patiently laying in wait for the last three episodes, her opportunity to escape and seize the power of the khalasar for herself finally presented itself after Daario and Jorah came to her aid.
By the end of the episode, Daenerys killed the Dothraki leaders in a blaze of fire, glory reminiscent of the first time we saw her emerge from the flames as a leader reborn.
Over the six seasons Game of Thrones has been on the air, we’ve seen our fair share of nudity. But few scenes are as powerful and memorable as Daenerys’s. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane in case you’ve forgotten the awesomeness that was Daenerys emerging from Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre.Amist rumors of certain Game of Thrones actresses taking issue with appearing naked on-screen, Emilia Clarke found her most recent reveal nothing short of empowering. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she expressed her excitement over how it felt to film the scene:
“It’s so exciting, very tingly-making. Every season I get at least one spine-chilling moment. I just stand up and I go, ‘I’m hearing what you’re all saying, but funny thing, I’m going to kill you all. I forgot that I have an ace in my back pocket and now I win.’”
She went on to remind audiences that it has been a few seasons since she last stripped down for the show, and was proud of the fact that she didn’t use a body double for the epic scene:
“I’d like to remind people the last time I took my clothes off was season 3,” she says. “That was awhile ago. It’s now season 6. But this is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!”
Way to go, Emilia!
As for the future for The Unburnt Dragon Queen, Clarke revealed that with the Dothraki army at her side, she’s a serious force to be reckoned with in Season 6:
“She realizes that this is the missing piece. The Dothraki are the missing piece of her crew – she’s seemingly indestructible having Dothraki on her side.”
