The 10 Best Comedies On Hulu Will Have You Crying Of Laughter: Bring On The Waterproof Mascara ‘Cause It’s Time To Hulu & Cry

Comedies are the gems of entertainment: they make you smile, laugh, and cry of joy. If it weren’t for these hilarious movies, our only cinematic escape from reality would be films that essentially make you depressed. Don’t get me wrong, those are still fantastic in their own right, but every once in a while, you need a little genuine laughter in life. Here are your top 10 comedies :

1. They Came Together (2014)

This rom-com is the rom-com that makes fun of all rom-coms. Featuring Amy Poehler and as the leads, the protagonists tell the story of how they fell in love — including as many clichéd examples as humanly possible. These two comedians are enough of a reason to watch the movie, but this parody is a refreshing addition to the genre.

2. The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

Some dads suck. It’s the sad truth of life, and while some are impeccable, others give Mommy Dearest a run for her money. The Royal Tenenbaums is one of those examples, being an absentee father incapable of showing parental pride towards his three extraordinarily gifted children. After years of being estranged, Royal claims to have six weeks left to live, leaving him regretful and in need of making amends. Easier said than done when your grandchildren already think you’re dead.

3. (2001)

A classic that has led to its own Broadway musical, this movie has created its own glossary of iconic moments. If you’ve gone this long without seeing Legally Blonde, this means you have never used the (i.e. you’re failing at life). That’s not all you’ve been missing out on, you’ll also witness one of the most epic break-up scenes ever, along with the best college application you could ever imagine. Oh, and Elle Woods is a kick-as$ empowering lead who will completely turn your world pink.

4. Sex Ed (2014)

We all know the expression: “Those who can’t do, teach.” Well this is certainly the case in Sex Ed. Why wouldn’t you want a complete amateur to teach you all of the ins and outs? With an inexperienced Haley Joel Osment as your sex ed teacher, you’ll probably want to follow up with a quick Google search. The man is desperate to up his game, but sometimes, even a sixth sense can’t help you out.

5. Top Five (2014)

You know that feeling when you bring someone home to meet the family, knowing full well that they will take advantage of any opportunity to sell you out and embarrass you? Yeah, well imagine if that guest happens to be a reporter (Rosario Dawson) in charge of writing your story… Yikes. Written and directed by , he plays the role of Andre Allen, a comedian who is trying to secure his spot as an A-list actor. He finds himself in an awkward situation, in which his upcoming wedding is meant to be broadcast on television. Problem is, does he even love the bride (Gabrielle Union)?

6. The Switch (2010)

Sometimes, you just want a kid so badly, that not even your best friend can talk you out of it. Fortunately, even the most reluctant BFF can have a change of heart. Take , for example, who refused to support ‘s decision. One minute he’s all judgey, the next he’s all… sticky? Well, he certainly gets himself into a sticky situation when he starts messing with her donor’s sperm sample. This movie basically exemplifies a worst case scenario of what can happen when you step out of sobriety.

7. Lars And The Real Girl (2007)

Nothing should get in the way of true love, not even reality. If you want to date outside of the norm, go for it and don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong. For years, interracial or same-sex marriages were discouraged and even illegal (in some places it’s still the case). No matter who or what you love, you can’t ever let people hold you down or keep you from following your heart. That’s basically the mantra to this romantic movie, in which an entire town must come to accept the protagonist’s new girlfriend: a lovely blow-up doll.

8. In The Loop (2009)

A list of comedies wouldn’t be complete without at least one example of British humor. Misunderstandings and miscommunications seem to be a recurrent theme in this political satire. A group of skeptical American and British operatives attempt to prevent a war between the two countries and the Middle East, which can be tricky when everyone always seems to be saying the wrong thing. Then again, such obstacles can be quite “unforeseeable.”

9. Lost In Translation (2003)

Bill Murray plays a faded and aging actor named Bob Harris, who encounters a neglected college graduate ( ) in a Tokyo hotel. The two form an unlikely relationship, which further blossoms as the pair venture into Japanese nightlife. Each lost in their own way, they help one another confront their problems. This doesn’t keep them from getting lost in translation from anything Japanese-related, which we can be grateful for in a comical sense.

10. Notting Hill (1999)

Another story about a celebrity who happens to cross paths with some rando. Julia Roberts plays an iconic movie star who can’t help but capture everyone’s hearts. When she randomly steps into Hugh Grant’s travel book store in Notting Hill, a connection is ignited that can’t be undone. Things start to unravel as reality sets in and the world finds out about the little affair. All Roberts wanted was a moment outside of the spotlight, but what do you expect when you’re a celebrity playing a celebrity?
