We already knew that Supergirl would be headed to The CW for its second season, and now fans can expect the show to crossover with the rest of the network’s DC-inspired line-up.As part of the network’s upfront presentation on Thursday, CW chief Mark Pedowitz promised fans that Supergirl would join the now annual crossovers between The CW’s DC Entertainment shows, a slate that already features Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Ahead of the presentation, the network exec told reporters to, “Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December.” The tease was made official during the presentation itself when Pedowitz stated:
“Next season, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and now Supergirl will join forces in our annual crossover event, our biggest ever.”
The newly announced crossover shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans. The now annual events started when actor Grant Gustin was introduced as Barry Allen/The Flash on an episode of Arrow Season 2, followed by a crossover between Arrow and The Flash the following season. In a similar fashion, the Legends of Tomorrow cast was brought into the fold the next season just before spinning-off into their own show. And earlier this year, Supergirl and The Flash shared a crossover episode that aired on CBS.The possibility of these epic team-ups is further facilitated by Greg Berlanti, the super producer who serves as an exec on all the shows and has become the de facto mastermind of DC’s television universe. The shared TV universe has become a fan favorite under Berlanti’s watch, resulting in some of The CW’s most beloved and successful shows. There’s no doubt the network hopes to replicate its past success with the next crossover, which should only be bolstered by the inclusion of Supergirl. Are you excited for The CW’s next superhero team-up?
