The Discovery

Trailer for The Discovery.

A love story set one year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified.

A thriller about a scientist (played by Robert Redford) who uncovers scientific proof that there is indeed an afterlife. His son is portrayed by Jason Segel, who’s not too sure about his father’s “discovery”, and Rooney Mara plays a mystery woman who has her own reasons for wanting to find out more about the afterlife.
Director Charlie McDowell has very little experience prior to landing the gig of Director for The Discovery. His prior work includes just two other films: & Untitled Sarah Silverman Project (TV Movie).

In June 2016, Netflix acquired global distribution rights to the film. The film had its world premiere at the on January 20, 2017. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on March 31, 2017.

When you think of locations movies are filmed at, you probably first think of Hollywood/Los Angeles. But, this film was actually shot in Rhode Island.
A completely different feel in this trailer versus what we first saw in the , which gave us very little about the plot of the film. And now with this full trailer, we know exactly what the film is about, the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified and now people are committing suicide at an alarming rate…but is this a good thing?

The Discovery Trailer Screen Shot 2
This is truly a very unique and interesting concept for a film. In a day where we are consistently getting remakes and sequels it is refreshing to see a new story line. And seems to be the Studio that is at the forefront with these original films, which is great to see.

I think this film looks great. How humans would react to finding out that in fact there is scientific proof that an afterlife exists is fascinating to me. I also think Robert Redford looks great. My one concern is how Jason Segel will hold up. It is hard for me to picture him in such a serious dramatic role, but I hope he proves me wrong. I will definitely catch this film on Netflix!
