Riggs and Murtaugh are returning to active duty, courtesy of Warner Bros. TV and Fox, as the network announced a slew of new series orders today including four dramas and two comedies, Deadline reported.The Lethal Weapon reboot, starring Clayne Crawford in the Mel Gibson role of Riggs and Damon Wayans in the Danny Glover role of Murtaugh, joins another classic film franchise — The Exorcist — among four other new series that will be debuting on Fox next season.
Lethal Weapon pairs up the two cops — Riggs, a disturbed hothead, and Murtaugh, a cop trying to live stress free after a heart attack — to take on the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles. The Exorcist is based on the same William Peter Blatty novel as William Friedkin’s horror classic about two priests trying to save a family from the horrors of possession by the demon Pazuzu. The show will star Geena Davis, Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels.Lethal Weapon and The Exorcist are only the latest existing properties to get adapted as television series. The Exorcist in particular follows a recent trend in adapting horror classics for television; Bates Motel (Psycho), Damien (The Omen) and Ash vs Evil Dead (The Evil Dead) are all recent additions to the TV landscape.
