We’re all keeping our eyes on any announcements released by the CW about casting for Season 3, just in case something interesting pops up. And now, that waiting may have paid off.

A New Rival For Barry

TV Line recently reported that the CW is casting a major recurring character for Season 3, and it looks like Barry’s going to face a bit of workplace tension.

“Barry’s slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary, a guy who is as smart as he is intuitive. As such, this newcomer doesn’t buy Barry’s nice guy routine and sets out to learn what he’s hiding — all while concealing some secrets of his own.”

The “nice guy routine” comment is interesting, as we have no clue in the new timeline. However this all turns out, it seems as though this new character is onto Barry’s deception, but its his own secrets which we’re interested in.

If the new character has secrets, it might be he’s a budding supervillain just waiting to cause trouble. This could well be the subtle introduction of one of the Mirror Masters — either Sam Scudder or Evan McCulloch.

Adding such a popular rogue from The Flash comics would be a great move for Season 3, and could lead to some really interesting visual tricks considering Mirror Master’s use of illusions.

A Master Of Deception

It’s difficult to predict which version of the character the CW will go with: Scudder or McCulloch. As the first Mirror Master, Scudder definitely has the weight of history behind him. He was also the Mirror Master to appear in the 1990 TV adaptation of The Flash, featuring John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen.

The most recent Mirror Master is Evan McCulloch, and considering he’s the one to appear in Flashpoint it could be that this is the version of the character the CW will choose. Interestingly, although Mirror Master is traditionally an ally of Leonard Snart, Flashpoint finds McCulloch imprisoned in the mirrorverse after being killed by Snart — he lives a shadow of his former life, appearing only in mirrored surfaces.

This could make for an interesting plotline in The Flash Season 3, especially as Snart’s role in Flashpoint is Citizen Cold, .

Introducing Mirror Master as an old adversary of Citizen Cold could be an interesting move for The Flash Season 3, especially as this might force him and Barry to work together.

Ok, all we have right now is wild speculation based on mysterious (and vague) new casting information. But we can hope!
