*Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones, Season 6.*
The Game of Thrones cast remained tight lipped during their appearance at Comic-Con, careful not to give even a sliver of information that may be analyzed to death by us impassioned fans. But that doesn’t mean the panel didn’t provide any clues, it just means we have to look a little closer to find them.
Due to a lack of any exclusive footage for Season 7 — no doubt due to the to filming — and stylistic look at production on the show. There really is nothing to see here. Nothing at all. Take a look for yourself:
Nothing at all, right? Well, actually… wrong. Now this may be desperately clutching at straws while pushing the boat out, but take a look at image below, seen as a reflection on a table as an employee places a copy of the script for the first episode of Season 7 onto the glass.
The Reflection Is Of The Kingslayer Himself, Jaime Lannister
Yup, it’s Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s bearded mugshot, which was in fact an image used during the promotion for Season 3, way back in 2013. Below are the comparisons, for those of you not fully convinced:
Before we go on, this could mean absolutely nothing. But this is Game of Thrones, a show that is notorious for teasing fans with discreet references, often done in the show seasons in advance. There’s no doubt, from the editing, that this is deliberately included, and considering the sounds bites played over the images focus on Cersei becoming Queen, the consequences could be crucial.
There’s no doubt Jaime will have an important role to play as the hit TV show reaches its high pressured climax, but could this mini Easter Egg suggest this could be a bigger role than we’d expected? Read on for further speculation on what this could mean:
1. He Could Be Azor Ahai
What the reflection means:Misty and diluted, on first glance, I thought the reflected face may’ve belonged to Benjen Stark. The lack of resolution and scarring makes Jaime looked zombified.
Is this Mini Egg telling us Jaime will have a strong link with the White Walkers? It’s within the realms of possibility. In the past, it has been suggested Jaime could be an outside bet for the . Jaime may turn Night Kingslayer and put an end to the White Walkers reign of terror.
2. Will Jaime Kill Cersei?
What the reflection means:Jaime sees Cersei as a reflection of himself (they’re twins, after all), but realizes that all good things come to an end.
I hope no one ever looks at me the way that Jaime looked at Cersei while she was crowned Queen. If looks could kill, that glance would’ve wiped out most of Westeros.
Of course, we know Jaime’s main motivation is his love for Cersei, but could that mean he sacrifices her for the greater good, if he feels she is a danger to society? He now knows she will go to any length in her quest for power, and perhaps Tommen was a final straw.
Don’t forget, that Cersei would die at the hands of her “little brother.”
3. Will Arya Kill Cersei? Or Will Jaime Be Killed By Arya Stark?
What the reflection means: Following her training, Arya is now able to become no one, and can reflect a different face to her own to aid with her killing spree.
There are two options here. Firstly, the reflection may imply that Arya may use the reflection of Jaime to lure Cersei into a false sense of security, before then killing her. .
Alternatively, perhaps while attempting to kill Cersei (considering Arya’s murder of Walder Frey, those left on the list are likely to be targeted over the next few seasons) Jaime will make the ultimate sacrifice, and give his life to save his sister.
4. Lady Stoneheart Will Arrive In Season 7
What the reflection means: The reflection is classic misdirection. What we should be looking at is the image being reflected; why is it from Season 3?
Quick recap time: At the end of Season 2, Jaime had been set free by Catelyn Stark after he was imprisoned by Robb Stark. Catelyn freed Jaime as she felt it may help her reunite with her daughters, Sansa and Arya.
Catelyn is long dead in the show, but in the books, her corpse comes back from the dead an carries out bloody revenge on those who wronged her. Fans were hoping for her appearance in Season 6, to no avail.
Although some suggest Arya and Sansa act as a , we may still be treated to a belated arrival of a zombified Catelyn in Season 7.
What do you think will come next for Jaime Lannister?
