The Real Locations Used To Film Every Season Of ‘American Horror Story’

For fans hoping to pay homage to their beloved with a visit to some of the creepy real life locations used on the show, look no further. Oh, and if you live in California or Louisiana you’re in luck: the locations are centered around these two American Horror Story hotspots. Season 1 – American Horror Story: Murder House


Fictional Setting: The Harmon Residence, LA

Actual Location: Rosenheim Mansion, 1120 Westchester Place, LA 90019

The real : Murder House location is true to the storyline – it really does stand in a leafy suburb of Los Angeles. The building was erected in 1902, and the house was so perfect that even the interior shots were filmed in a studio replica of the Rosenheim Mansion’s actual insides. The only portion altered was the Mansion’s adjoining chapel, which was filtered out of the show with CGI. You can now !

Season 2 – American Horror Story: Asylum

Actual Location: Santa Ana Courthouse, 211 W. Santa Ana Blvd., California

Briarcliff’s creepy New England setting is actually a gorgeous area of California masquerading as the East Coast! The glorious Romanesque Santa Ana Courthouse is 09:00 – 16:30 on weekdays excluding public holidays, and entrance is free.

The exterior shots of Briarcliff’s grounds were filmed in Hidden Valley, Thousand Oaks, California, a beautiful swathe of hilly countryside between LA and Santa Barbara.

Season 3 – American Horror Story:

Fictional Setting: Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, New Orleans

Actual Location: Buckner Mansion, 1410 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans

The Coven operate from the glorious Buckner Mansion in New Orleans, where all of the show’s major locations can be found. Marie Laveau’s Cornrow City Salon is , 2000 Dumaine Street and Madame Lalaurie’s Mansion is the Gallier House, 1132 Royal Street. Season 4 – American Horror Story:

Mott Manor

Fictional Setting: Mott Manor, Jupiter, Florida

Actual Location: Longue Vue House & Gardens, 7 Bamboo Rd, New Orleans, LA 70124, United States

Maybe the AHS gang loved filming in New Orleans a whole lot, as Dandy & Gloria Mott’s mansion is really found in New Orleans. Longue Vue House is 10:00 – 17:00 Monday to Saturday and 13:00 – 17:00 Sunday. The house was built by Edgar and Edith Stern from 1939 – 1942.

Jupiter, Florida in the show was all comprised of New Orleans locations, including the bar where Dandy and Andy the gigolo meet, High Noon (really New Orleans’s F&M Patio Bar, 4841 Tchoupitoulas St) and the Lakeview diner the are ejected from (really Camellia Grill, 626 S Carrollton Ave).

Season 5 – American Horror Story:


Fictional Setting: Hotel Cortez, LA

Actual Location: Oviatt Building, 617 S. Olive St., LA

The exteriors for The Countess’s Hotel Cortez were filmed at LA’s Oviatt Building, with crew affixing a neon sign to complete the look. The interiors of the Hotel were built from scratch at the Fox Studios set, but are heavily modeled on the Oviatt’s Art Deco Cicada restaurant.
