The Truth Is Indeed Out There: More ‘X-Files’ Is Likely, Says Fox

In a press call for the network’s upfront presentation, Fox TV Group chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman have confirmed that negotiations have begun to bring even more X-Files to the network following this year’s event series that returned to Mulder and Scully to television for the first time since 2002. Deadline reports Walden as saying:

We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show. Hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.

Newman later added that they are still trying to determine what sort of episode count would make the most sense, given the varying schedules of the key talent involved. He said:

Conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more.

If more X-Files happens, it will likely be aimed for the 2017-2018 season. The last event series was one of Fox’s biggest successes of the year, trailing only the mega-hit Empire in video-on-demand performance.
