‘The Walking Dead’: Did Robert Kirkman Just Reveal When Rick Might Die?

“No one is safe, definitely not.”

In an interview with CNN last year, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman terrified fans more than a thousand zombies ever could, insinuating that even favorites like Daryl or Carol could meet their end at the hands of a walker or disgruntled survivor. Well, Kirkman’s back at it again, whipping fans into a frenzy this week during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). Technically, the Q&A was set up to promote the TV adaptation of Kirkman’s latest project, Outcast, but inevitably, discussion quickly turned to the recent finale of The Walking Dead, presumably because Outcast doesn’t have any zombies. While most of the AMA was dedicated to current events within The Walking Dead, a lot of fan attention has been focused on user maxforce54, who asked the vital and poetically worded question:

“do rick die?”

The grammar behind this query may be somewhat questionable, but maxforce54 makes an important point: Is Rick safe simply because he’s the show’s main character?

And so are you, Rick.

And so are you, Rick.

So Kirkman, now’s the time to let us know the answer to this age old question once and for all.

“do rick die?”

Kirkman’s answer?

“He do eventually.”

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it doesn’t get more definitive than that.

While some fans may have hoped for a more precise answer, detailing the exact season, episode and even second that Rick meets his demise, Kirkman chose the typically vague route, toying with fans who would love nothing more than the entire show mapped out for them in obsessive detail. If it makes you feel better though, Kirkman also hinted at the death of another central character in the AMA, stating that:

I don’t play favorites. They all die eventually.

Carl.

When though!? When Will Rick Shuffle Off To His Demise?

Errrrr, Rick?

Errrrr, Rick?

The Walking Dead has always been described as the zombie movie that never ends, although ratings may have a say in that, so of course, the likes of Rick and Carl could be killed in the premiere of Season 7 or somehow survive until the 17th season. There’s really no way of knowing, even if you look at the original source material for help, as Kirkman and co. have deliberately steered the show off track to prevent comic book spoilers. At this stage, all we can really do is try and guess how Rick could die. Will his face be shot off by one of Negan’s crew? Will Rick become a savage walker, doomed to forever roam the Earth? Or will Carl literally stab him in the back, ensuring that his father’s sheriff hat will forever remain in his possession? Keep up with AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead on Sunday nights until The Walking Dead returns this October, and check out Kirkman’s new show Outcast on Cinemax, June 3, 2016. How will The Walking Dead kill Rick Grimes?
