In recent years, many cult-favorite movies have been mined by the powers-that-be in Hollywood for the purpose of film reboots and small-screen adaptations.Whether the classic gems hail from the 70’s, the 80’s, or the early 90’s, the industry is out to collect and cash in on a number of beloved properties. Kevin Bacon, an actor with an interesting collection of films from his early years in the business, has joined a small-screen continuation of the film “Tremors”, which went on to spawn four other sequels. An interesting development given that the property might be one of the most outrageous things Bacon has been associated with.
Here’s the plot synopsis from the first movie:
Repairmen Val McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nev. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist (Finn Carter) studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple (Reba McEntire, Michael Gross), the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh.
In addition to reprising his role from the first film, Bacon will also serve as executive producer on the project which has received backing from Blumhouse productions and Universal Cable productions.Currently, the show has one of the writers from the short-lived CW series The Secret Circle attached to the project. No home-network or viewing platform have been announced either. But if this show is a success, it could give Ash vs. Evil Dead and The Walking Dead some competition in the blood-soaked-action-survivor genre. Stay tuned for more updates.
