The Alien franchise has captivated, fascinated, and hooked audiences for years. It has one of the most devoted fan-bases out there with members who are constantly watching, re-watching, and analyzing the films long after they have departed from theaters. Now, director Ridley Scott is working on a follow-up to the 2012 film Prometheus that followed a motley crew out to learn the origins of humanity and instead discover something far more terrifying than any of them could have imagined. Alien: Covenant is an upcoming sci-fi action horror movie and the sequel to the 2012 movie. Scott has big plans for this film and talked about a sequel potentially coming out after this entry, which has yet to arrive in theaters.
Here’s the film’s plot synopsis:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Ridley Scott has talked at length about what he has in store for audiences and fans when the sequel to Prometheus arrives. Despite aggressively veering into the path of Neill Blomkamp’s planned Alien 5 movie, fans are still excited to venture back into the world of xenomorphs, terrifying creatures, and strange new worlds. Scott mentioned how this movie would essentially serve as the bridge between the Alien movies and the series that began with Prometheus while serving as a tour guide that slowly introduces and builds upon the mythology. It’s definitely an ambitious undertaking. But after the success of The Martian, many believe that Ridley will deliver in spades. Is there any reason to doubt him at this point? With a cast that includes the likes of Katherine Waterson, Billy Crudup,Danny McBride, a host of new faces and returning cast members Noomi Raplace and Michael Fassbender, this film is shaping up to be one of the biggest movies of the 2017 film season. We’ll see how it performs box-office wise when the moment of truth arrives next year.
