We Just Saw J.K. Simmons As Commissioner Gordon In ‘Justice League’, And He’s Perfect

(Warning: The following contains multiple giant, hulking SPOILERS for next year’s Justice League movie, garnered from a recent set visit. Proceed with whatever level of Bat-like caution that suggests to you is wise…)

So, here’s the thing about set visits. One of the first things any journalist will tell you is that, for the most part, you aren’t likely to see anything all that interesting being filmed. Instead, with a member of the media or an invited group of fans present, filmmakers typically opt to finish off some already largely completed shots, or to film some scenes not featuring the main cast. On , however, that was… not so much the case.

Y’see:

We Just Saw J.K. Simmons As Commissioner Gordon In Justice League, And He’s Perfect

Y’see, as part of that aforementioned trip to the Justice League set, I – along with several other journalists – was given the chance to watch a distinctly plot-relevant scene be filmed: A meeting between four members of the Justice League (Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg) and Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon on the top of a Gotham police station.

And as it turns out, three very important things about bringing Commissioner Jim Gordon to the big screen look set to be firmly in place in Justice League:

1. He has both hair and a mustache. Just like in the comic-books.

2. He doesn’t spend his entire time walking around in a sleeveless vest, despite Simmons apparently now having the body of a young Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And, crucially…

3. He comes across as both tough as nails, and vaguely aware of the ridiculousness of the superhero-filled world he’s found himself living in.

Which, with many fans concerned that Simmons would bring more of a J. Jonah Jameson-like comedic verve to the role, rather than, say, the meticulously tough energy of his recent performance in Whiplash (below), will hopefully be something of a reassurance.

Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that Simmons (who was apparently only set to film for two days on the Justice League set, this time out) will get enough time to shine in the film, and any future Batman solo movies he may or may not play a leading role in…

While we wait, though, there’s still news of Batman’s , and of course , to chew over…

What do you reckon, though?
