“They going to just to keep beating that shit into our heads about how they did us, huh?”
Snoop Dogg has had enough of “Roots“, the Alex Haley book, the 1977 mini-series and the remake airing on The History Channel (as well as Lifetime and A&E) over four nights starting Memorial Day and ending Thursday night June 2nd.

Dogg is tired of Hollywood encapsulating the essence of the black experience down to its slavery roots. He wants Hollywood to stop dealing with the past and focus more on the present, the every day struggles and problems common to all African-Americans. The screed was posted in a very NSFW ten minute Instagram video which can be viewed above.
“I’m sick of this shit. How the f— are they going to put Roots on, on Memorial Day?” Snoop said in an Instagram video. “They going to just keep beating that shit into our heads about how they did us, huh?” ( )
Not only will the rapper not be watching the four day History Channel event, he actively advises that other blacks boycott the mini-series also.
“I ain’t watching that shit, and I advise you motherf-—ers as real n— like myself; f— them television shows,” Snoop said. “Let’s create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what’s real. F— that old shit.”
Dogg also does not have kind words for 2013 Oscar Winner 12 Years a Slave and other films that “. . .keep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.”
In light of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and the snub of Straight Outta Compton for a Best Picture nod this year Dogg does make a valid if crudely spoken point.
The original mini-series which aired closed to 40 years ago and which starred Levar Burton is still an important black cultural touchstone. The History Channel re-imagining was produced by Burton and Mark Wolper, the son of original producer David L. Wolper.
