Warning: spoilers for Season 6, Episode 10 of Game of Thrones!
Now that Season 6 of Game of Thrones is over, we’re preparing for the long winter we’ll have to endure before the show starts again. At least the absence of new material leaves us with plenty of time to rewatch the last episodes of Season 6 in hopes of spotting any hints or we hadn’t noticed before.
And while we’re speculating about who’s going to , or , we might have to look even further back than Season 6 when it comes to Arya. Eagle-eyed Reddit user went back to Season 3, Episode 6 when Arya meets Melisandre, and it looks like the small prophecy told by the Red Priestess at the time is coming true. So, will they meet again?
Did Melisandre Refer To Arya’s Kill List?
By now we’re all familiar with , and we’ve actually seen her make some progress when she slit Walder Frey’s throat in beautiful Red Wedding fashion. (If your GoT bloodlust craves more, check out the .) So, who’s left?
Cersei Lannister: You don’t just accuse a girl’s father of treason and expect no consequences.
Ser Ilyn Payne: He beheaded Ned Stark.
The Hound: Although he and Arya forged a bit of a bond, he killed Arya’s friend Mycah.
The Mountain: When Arya was captive at Harrenhal, she witness him pick a torture victim every day.
Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr: They sold Arya’s friend Gendry to Melisandre.
Melisandre: Well, she took Gendry away to sacrifice him to the Lord of Light.
Now, as Reddit user points out, if you compare the eye color mentioned by Melisandre to Arya’s victims — past and future — we might be able to predict who Arya is going to kill next. The brown eyes could be Polliver’s and Meryn Trant’s, who are already dead like Walder Frey (who the blue eyes belong to). That leaves us with the Waif (blue eyes) and Cersei Lannister (green eyes). So, if green comes after brown and blue, does it mean Cersei better watch out?
On the other hand, you could also say that Melisandre’s prediction of “eyes you’ll shut forever” means that Arya would give up her many faces and become Arya Stark again, however that doesn’t change anything with regard to the initial motivations that led her to setting up this kill list.
Will Arya Kill Melisandre In Season 7?
It’s a curious coincidence that Melisandre has been banned from Winterfell now that Jon Snow — — found out she orchestrated the sacrifice of Shireen Baratheon, just when Arya is headed North. That means the chances that they cross paths again are high for Season 7, but does Arya have what it takes to kill a Red priestess?
What’s more likely is that Davos will take the matter into his own hands, as Arya surely has more pressing cases to attend to on her list. Still, if an encounter with Melisandre could lead to more mysterious declarations that we can pick apart, we’ll take it.
Where do you think is Arya headed in Season 7 of Game of Thrones?
