Will Smith Will Be A Pallbearer At Mentor Muhammad Ali’s Funeral

Preparations are underway for the funeral service to mourn the passing and celebrate the life of the G.O.A.T., Muhammad Ali. Countless for the three-time heavyweight world champion and Civil Rights activist, and a handful will be participating in the memorial itself. According to People, Will Smith — who played the boxing legend in the 2009 movie Ali — will be in attendance as one of the pallbearers.

The 47-year-old actor knew and trained with Ali himself in preparation for the film. On Saturday, Smith wrote a touching tribute to his mentor on Facebook:

Smith has always spoken warmly of his time working with the Ali. In 2015, he said the following in his speech at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year ceremony:

“That’s really what makes my job so beautiful as an actor — for four, five months at a time I get to wear peoples’ lives. So I got to wear Muhammad Ali’s greatness. I got to study and feel and embody the soul of the man, from the foundations of Islam and the strength of his Muslim faith in his life, to the beautiful wake that he always leaves in his magnificent path.”

Other celebrities in attendance at the funeral will include Billy Crystal, Bryant Gumbel, and former president Bill Clinton, who will give eulogies.
