(Spoiler Filled Article on the ending of X-Men: Apocalypse.)We are nearing the world-wide opening day for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.‘ The North American release date is May 27th, while many other regions of the world have already premiered the film. And in this film, we have the new team of X-Men. It has also brought this new face. Mr. Sinister. But before things head toward his role in the film, we are given Wolverine’s cameo. Here’s where the film leaves him.
It is shown that he was a prisoner of Stryker, as in the previous films; X-Men: United and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since the future has been changed, those events that had taken place aren’t as precise. This time we have Mister Sinister’s role involved, which could turn the tides on future events. Here’s the after credit scene of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Warning, again:
Mister Sinister’s name is on a briefcase, where the holder is collecting Logan’s blood. In this timeline, Logan has been imprisoned by Stryker since the events of Days of Future Past; until his escape in this film.
As we know, Nathaniel Essex (Mister Sinister) occupied himself as a biologist, before making himself into what he is now; a genetically altered human. Having the DNA of Logan, along with showing the Sinister name, highlights who is to come in future films. It leans heavily on the possible villain of the future X-Men 90’s movie to be Sinister, himself. This leads back to Days of Future Past again, where it shows “Mystique” pulling Logan out of the water. Except, it wasn’t her. It was Mister Sinister, who is also known to have the shapeshifting ability. Yes, this means Fox has tricked the audiences from the ending of the last film, till now, in Apocalypse. By using these tactics, it’s certain that Nate Grey was hinted on as well.
Introducing the X-Men franchise to the nineties could bring any multitude of characters. Since we’re given Sinister now, he could also bring along Nate Grey (Cable) or even a younger version of Gambit. This ties well with what writer; Simon Kinberg mentioned to Collider:
“It’s a nod toward potentially a lot of different movies. I mean certainly the Wolverine movie is related to what happens at the end of it, but there’s also another character that’s introduced, at least in name, in the tag and he could show up in any host of different X-Men films. Maybe a Gambit movie, maybe another X-Men movie.”
There’s also a possible chance for the Nasty Boys to make an appearance also, since the group is known to be involved with the powerful villian.
These characters could play as the distraction for the young X-Men, before Mister Sinister makes his appearance. Or things could play out with all fighting at the end. In the comic, Sinister experimented and imprinted himself on the DNA of Cain Marko, Charles Xavier and Sebastian. After his death, he’d be reborn, taking over either of his choosing. If 20th Century Fox is following the source this closely, they could have Sinister dead and after Shaw’s death in First Class; reborn again. It’s entirely up to how they want to carry the X-Men universe. Catch ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ in North American theaters, on May 27th.
