As of today, X-Men: Apocalypse has made it to its London premiere. Reviews are coming in left and right, mostly criticizing the film for being overstuffed with new mutants. But whoever said more of something is a bad thing? Especially when it’s more of our favorite mutants to see on-screen. One of those mutants we’ll be introduced to in X-Men: Apocalypse will be that of Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan), otherwise known as Cyclops. Now Cyclops didn’t get his name for having one eye, but you’ll get the jest of how Scott Summers becomes Cyclops after viewing the newest featurette released, focusing on Scott Summers in high school.
In the clip, we get a brief glimpse at Scott Summers before he goes through his mutant transformation into Cyclops. The process appears to be very jarring, and happens at the coming of age stage in Scott’s life. He’s in the midst of high school peers, while the disciplinarian of an instructor sends Scott to the principal’s office. But on his way out of the classroom, Scott Summers heads to the restroom first. There, it is where Scott Summers gets his first taste of mutant abilities. And it doesn’t go so well for the bumbling jock who comes looking for blood from Scott Summers/Cyclops. By the time the bully gets the door unhinged on the stall that Scott is hiding in, Scott shoots off an eye-beam of epic proportions, flattening the bully, rendering him incapacitated. The clip ends shortly after, but it brings up the question of how many mutant origins will be touched upon in X-Men: Apocalypse. If Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan) is receiving a full origin story, then it’s likely that Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Jubilee (Lana Condor) may receive the full treatment in depicting their origins as well.
X-Men: Apocalypse premieres worldwide on May 27, 2016. Here are a few more promotional clips released for the film.
