Hey all you mutant maniacs! No? That doesn’t work? Alright, let me start over. Hey all you…X-Men fans! Yeah, that works, it’s a bit ordinary, but it’ll do. Anyway, I’m assuming that if you’re reading this, you’re either A) a fan of the X-Men and the 20th Century Fox universe of films, or B) not a fan, but might be looking for some fancy words (such as these) to persuade you.
Whether it’s the former or the latter, I’d suggest clicking away from this article if you haven’t already seen the latest installment in the X-franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse. In this article, I’m going to be talking heavily about the film and its massive cast of mutants—so if you haven’t seen it, and care about spoilers, look away!
If you have seen it, or just don’t care about spoilers, by all means, continue reading!
Before we go any further, and get to what this article is really about, I just want to mention one thing. I REALLY LIKED this movie! If you’ve been browsing around the internet recently, you may have come across a ton of X-Men: Apocalypse reviews and grades.
Needless to say, the unanimous decision about this film is that it is either “alright” or very bad. Personally, I enjoyed it. I can absolutely see why people don’t like this movie, and I know it isn’t flawless, but I give it a B overall because there were several things I loved about it.
That being said, this article isn’t really about the movie itself, it’s about the characters. Specifically, the five amazing mutants that you should definitely look out for in X-Men: Apocalypse! These mutants aren’t hard to find, but rather, they’re featured in some of my favorite scenes in the movie, so I just had to shine a spotlight on them! Let’s take a look.
Angel, real name Warren Worthington III, is a pretty important mutant in the X-Men comics, being both a member of the team and one of Apocalypse’s four horsemen. Angel possesses the power of flight, using two large wings on his back to get around.
In the film, Angel is once again a member of the four horsemen, representing the horseman Death. Apocalypse grants him metallic wings that act as weapons, allowing him to fire razor sharp feathers from them.
Scene(s) to look out for him in: Angel is unfortunately pretty underused in this film, but it makes sense that in a movie full of mutants, there wouldn’t be time to dive into the backstories of everyone. Still, Angel’s introduction scene is absolutely epic! In a scene that also manages to introduce Nightcrawler (and very briefly, The Blob), Angel is seen fighting in some sort of mutant underground fight club.
What ensues is an epic fight scene between him and Nightcrawler, showcasing exactly why Angel was one of the mutants Apocalypse recruited. There’s also a really cool seen showing Angel drowning his sorrows whilst jamming to some Metallica. It’s not an important scene, but it’s too badass not to mention.
Yes, everyone’s favorite mutant returns in X-Men: Apocalypse! Wolverine’s appearance in the movie was confirmed/spoiled thanks to the trailer for the film, and it was pretty much what everyone expected, a cameo that featured Logan taking on a ton of armed soldiers.
Scene(s) to look out for him in: Well, Wolverine is really only in one scene, but man is it awesome! After being released from his cage by Jean Grey, Wolverine goes on a rampage, killing every guard in sight. He almost kills Jean and her friends too, before Jean taps into his mind and reminds Ol’ Logan of who he really is. After that, he runs away, never to be seen or mentioned again. A quick and arguably pointless scene, but come on, it’s Wolverine!
Another underused mutant in the film, Storm may not have a lot of lines or scenes in X-Men: Apocalypse, but whenever she appears on-screen, she sure…brings the thunder! I’m sorry about that.
Scene(s) to look out for her in: Ororo Munroe is at her best during the final fight scene, when she gets to unleash her full power! Like I said, she doesn’t get a lot of screen time, but seeing her use her powers to take on an entire team of X-Men, and then to betray Apocalypse, is pretty sweet!
The big, bad mutant himself, Apocalypse is nothing to joke about! I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical about Oscar Isaac’s performance when I saw the trailers, he just didn’t seem like a very intimidating villains. But when I actually saw the movie, I was shocked to see how incredible Isaac did!
Scene(s) to look out for him in: Isaac delivers some of the best lines in the film as Apocalypse, one of them being during a pretty emotional scene involving the concentration camp that Magneto first discovered his powers in. Of course, the final fight scene is also an epic presentation of En Sabah Nur’s powers, as well as his ability to deliver some pretty cool (yet cliche) lines.
Now, you’re probably wondering why I’d put Quicksilver above all of the other amazing mutants featured on this list. Well, Peter Maximoff may not be the strongest X-Man on the team, but he’s once again presented what I believe to be the best scene in any X-Men film!
Scene(s) to look out for him in: In Days of Future Past, Quicksilver was given an awesome scene, which saw him zipping around a room full of guards, dodging bullets and saving the lives of Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto in the process.
That scene was incredible, and everyone knew that it’d be hard to top it. Personally, I feel that Fox has done just that! The Quicksilver scene in Apocalypse, which sees Peter zipping around Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters, saving everyone (almost everyone) from dying in an explosion, is just incredible! This scene alone is why Quicksilver is my number one mutant to look out for in X-Men: Apocalypse!
So there you have it, the five mutants to look out for in X-Men Apocalypse! You can check out X-Men: Apocalypse, and its large cast of amazing mutants, now in theaters!
