Trailer for XOXO, starring Sarah Hyland, Graham Phillips and Chris D’Elia.
XOXO is a coming-of-age ensemble film about a group of 20-somethings on a crazy adventure to the biggest EDM festival in America, XOXO. The film follows six strangers whose lives collide in one frenetic, dream-chasing, hopelessly romantic night. At the center is Ethan, a young DJ who gets a last minute slot to perform after his tracks go viral online days before the festival. This is a huge opportunity… if he can just make it there in one piece.Feature is the directorial debut for Christopher Louie, who is better known for some animated shorts.
Film is not to be confused with the XOXO event in Portland, OR, which focuses on independent technology and art, instead of drug-fueled dancing.
Just in case you’ve been living in a hole, Sarah Hyland became famous thanks to her role in the popular series Modern Family, but she has been working to break into film for most of her acting career.
Films such as XOXO always crack me. Somewhat of a celebration of ecstasy-fueled dancing — the film even comes packaged with hallucinations — you can’t help but wonder who the target audience is. Warner Bros is still trying to figure this out, as they couldn’t find any audience to go see . And that film had major star appeal with , and .
So Netflix is taking a crack at raves with the first trailer for XOXO, and it does seem to have something that We Are Your Friends did not. One thing for certain, there is less drama and more partying (and skin) to be seen here. While Warner Bros looked at the dark underbelly of being a DJ, Netflix is hoping that their celebration of music has a higher draw. And it should, especially with distribution across Netflix’s premium network.
